The healing powers of Aloe Vera Gel : Reducing and Clearing Acne and Scar Pigmentations.

Lots of people have scars and acne pigmentation on different parts of their bodies including myself. If you are like me then I am pretty sure you have looked up ways to get rid of and treat acne and scar pigmentations on your body or maybe not. Scars and acne pigmentation are those dark spots that appear on your skin after a you get acne or a scar.  Some of these dark pigmentations can go away naturally on its own but may take a long time (Vogler et al,1999). It could be anywhere from a few weeks to even years depending on what type of acne or scar pigmentation you have. There are multiple products that claim to be effective to treat acne and scar pigmentation including fade creams, face wipes, peels, pills, soaps etcetera. The question is do these products really work and are they effective?

Well here comes an answer that may help. Aloe Vera gel is widely used by people to treat burns, scars and even help with baldness. Aloe Vera is a green plant that looks like a cactus and has clear gel in the middle when you cut it open. The gel can be used in several ways to treat acne.  You can apply the gel directly on your face or outer part of the body where the acne or scar pigmentation is for a few minutes or even an hour before washing it off, or you can even include it to your body lotion for even skin tone. Some people add lemon juice to it when the scar is highly pigmented and need to fade quickly.

What is the science behind it you may ask? In a recent study, researchers analyzed the effectiveness of Aloe Vera gel on wound healing by using in vitro cell proliferation on regular human skin cells to determine if Aloe Vera gel will be effective in wound healing. They concluded in the research that Aloe Vera indeed had a significant effect on cell proliferation and migration of both fibroblasts and keratinocytes as compared to the control which did not have any Aloe Vera present.  Simply meaning that Aloe Vera had increased and promoted fibroblast and keratinocytes to grow quickly which accelerated healing. Aloe Vera was tested to have protective effects on preservative-induced keratinocyte death which is a good thing because that is what promotes healing in our bodies when we get scars and acne pigmentations. (Teplicki et al, 2018). So yes, Aloe Vera gel does help with the reduction of acne and or scar pigmentations. For best results Aloe Vera gel is effective when used consistently on the acne or scar pigmentation.
